In Japan this phrase is a good way to start a meal. It can mean “Let’s eat!” or, more formally “I humbly receive”. The photo was taken in a traditional ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen. The meal before us was generous and so beautifully presented. Every plate and bowl was chosen to match the food it contained. The elegance of the chopsticks and its holder summed up the attention to detail everywhere else.
